One More Tool to Achieve Your Goal: Affirmation

Louise Hay says that an affirmation opens the door—it is the beginning of the path to change. Affirmations have a positive impact on your mindset and serve as a form of self-help to overcome fear and self-doubt. I chant, “I am not the mind and I am not the body” when I experience fear or self-doubt. It gives me a sense of relief, reminding me that I am nobody—minuscule in the cosmic realm—and that my problems and fears are negligible. I will overcome any fear, self-doubt, or barrier. It has helped me to maintain a positive attitude toward life, handle toxic people and relationships, and make decisions with less stress.

Research shows that positive affirmations can change your behavior by rewiring your brain to focus on the positive aspects of your life, rather than the negative. When practiced regularly, affirmations can help you develop a more optimistic mindset, reduce stress, and improve your emotional resilience. This shift in perspective makes it easier to face challenges with confidence and self-belief. Additionally, affirmations can foster a sense of self-worth, encourage healthy habits, and motivate you to take proactive steps toward your goals. Over time, this positive reinforcement can lead to lasting changes in how you think, feel, and act.
Integrate affirmations into your day as a routine. For example, you can express gratitude during your morning coffee or before going to bed. You can also include affirmations during prayer. Tailor them to your needs and life goals. Keep your affirmations concise and meaningful, making sure they are realistic. Frame them positively—rather than saying, “I will not be afraid to talk,” say, “I will speak confidently.” Your affirmations should resonate with your core values because those that don’t align with who you are will not be effective. Write them in the present tense.

For example:

If you’re struggling with self-confidence, you might repeat, “I am worthy of love and success,” which gradually shifts your belief in yourself.
If you’re working on improving your health, you could affirm, “I make choices that support my body and mind,” helping to strengthen healthier habits.
For someone experiencing anxiety or stress, an affirmation like, “I am calm, and I handle challenges with ease,” can bring a sense of calm and clarity.
If you’re working towards a goal, an affirmation like, “I am focused and take consistent action toward my dreams,” can help keep you motivated and on track.
These kinds of affirmations help reinforce the belief that you can overcome challenges and make positive changes in your life.
